În această noapte a avut loc decernarea premiilor Academiei de Film din SUA, cunoscute popular drept „premiile Oscar”, după numele statuetei aurii care este înmânată câștigătorilor. 2023 a fost un an plin de lansări de filme foarte bune, multe dintre ele fiind considerate favorite pentru anumite categorii din cadrul premiilor Oscar, dar doar două dintre ele au dovedit că au captat atenția membrilor juriului cu adevărat: Oppenheimer, cel mai recent film al lui Christopher Nolan, și Poor Things filmul lui Yorgos Lanthimos. Nu doar că acestea au câștigat cele mai multe premii, pentru regie, design sau cinematografie, dar și cei doi actori din rolurile principale, Cillian Murphy și Emma Stone, au câștigat, la rândul lor premii pentru cei mai buni actori în roluri principale.
